Bellweather Reports

Last updated: 9 August 2026

This policy explains what we do with personal information. It covers three groups of people: visitors to this website, clients and prospective clients, and individuals named in the reports we produce. The third group matters and most policies ignore it, so it has its own section below.

1. Who is responsible for your information

Bellweather Reports, of 27 Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London W1S 4JL, United Kingdom, is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. Our Chief Executive, Lesley Canis, is responsible for data protection and is the person to contact about it.

Contact us about anything in this policy at hello@bellweatherreports.com, by telephone on +44 7860 294096, or by post at the address above.

2. Information we collect

When you submit a request through this website, we collect your name, business email address, organisation name, website, the market or competitor set you are asking about, anything else you type into the message field, the consent choices you make, and the date and time of submission. We also record the IP address the submission came from, as a record of consent and to detect abuse.

When you correspond with us, we collect the content of the emails and any information you choose to give us.

When you become a client, we collect the billing contact details, billing address and payment records needed to invoice you and keep proper accounts. We do not receive or store full card details.

When you visit this website, we collect limited technical and usage information — pages viewed, referring page, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type. See section 8 on cookies.

We do not deliberately collect special category data — information about health, race, religion, politics, sex life, sexual orientation, trade union membership or biometrics. Please do not send it to us.

3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

What we use it forLawful basis

Performing the engagement and delivering the reportPerformance of a contract with you
Invoicing, payment and credit controlPerformance of a contract, and legal obligation
Keeping accounting and tax recordsLegal obligation
Sending you our own reports, market notes and offers by emailLegitimate interests for business contacts, or consent where you gave it
Website analytics and improving the siteLegitimate interests, and consent for non-essential cookies
Security, fraud prevention and record of consentLegitimate interests
Establishing, exercising or defending legal claimsLegitimate interests, and legal obligation

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether our interest is overridden by your rights and concluded it is not. You can object at any time — see section 9.

4. Marketing

If you give us your business email address, or you engage us, we may email you about our own reports and services. Every such email tells you who it is from, gives our postal address, and gives you a working way to stop receiving them. Stopping is immediate and permanent unless you ask to be added back.

We do not sell, rent, trade or share your information with anyone for their own marketing.

5. Individuals named in our reports

Our reports analyse markets. Doing that means recording information about identifiable people — a named owner, a named practitioner, a named reviewer, the author of a public post, a person quoted in an advertisement.

Where it comes from. Publicly accessible sources only: the organisation's own website, review platforms, advertising transparency libraries, search results, public registers and public social media accounts. We do not buy personal data from data brokers, we do not use private or subscription-gated sources about individuals, and we do not conduct covert enquiry.

Why we do it. To produce commercial analysis for a client, which is our legitimate interest and that of our client. We limit ourselves to information the person has published or which has been published about them in a public forum, and to their professional and commercial activity. We do not report on anyone's private life.

Who sees it. The client who commissioned the report, and their professional advisers. Reports are licensed for internal use and may not be published — see our Terms and Conditions.

How long. We keep the report and its underlying research for seven years for professional records and to defend any claim, and then delete it.

Your rights if you are named. You have the rights in section 9, including the right to object to our processing and the right to have inaccurate information corrected. Write to hello@bellweatherreports.com. If a report has already been delivered we will check the point against the source, correct it if we got it wrong, reissue the corrected version to the client, and tell you we have done so.

We are not a consumer reporting agency, we are not a credit bureau, and our reports must not be used for decisions about any individual's credit, insurance, employment or tenancy. Our terms prohibit it.

6. Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers who process information on our behalf under contract. They fall into these categories:

  • website hosting and database services, which store enquiries submitted through this site;
  • email and document storage services, which hold our correspondence with you;
  • website analytics services;
  • accounting, bookkeeping and payment processing services, which handle invoicing and payment.

They act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes.

We also disclose information where the law requires it, to our professional advisers, and to a buyer if the business is sold.

7. Transfers outside the UK

Some of our providers are in the United States or elsewhere outside the UK. Where information is transferred, we rely on UK adequacy regulations where they apply, or on the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Ask us and we will tell you which applies to a given provider.

8. Cookies

Essential cookies keep the site working and cannot be turned off. Analytics cookies are set only if you agree, and you can change your mind at any time through the cookie settings on the site or by clearing cookies in your browser.

9. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • be told what we hold and why — this policy;
  • access a copy of your personal information;
  • have it corrected if it is wrong or incomplete;
  • have it deleted, where we have no overriding reason to keep it;
  • restrict how we use it while a question about it is resolved;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to object to direct marketing at any time, which we will always honour;
  • portability — receive information you gave us in a machine-readable form;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

Write to hello@bellweatherreports.com. We respond within one month. There is no charge. We may ask you to confirm who you are.

If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, by phone on 0303 123 1113, or at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF. Please raise it with us first — we would rather fix it.

10. If you are in the United States

We serve clients in the United States and this policy applies to you.

We are not a data broker. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are used in California law. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months.

Whether or not your state law obliges us, we will honour a request from a US resident to know what we hold, to correct it, to delete it, or to opt out of marketing. Write to hello@bellweatherreports.com. We will not discriminate against you for asking.

11. How long we keep things

Client records, reports and underlying research7 years from the end of the engagement
Accounting and tax records7 years, as required by law

12. Security

Information is held in access-controlled systems with multi-factor authentication, encrypted in transit and at rest by our providers. Access is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the ICO where the law requires it if something goes wrong.

13. Children

This website and our services are for businesses. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 18.

14. Changes

We may update this policy. The current version is always on this website, with the date it was last changed at the top. If we make a significant change affecting how we use information about you, we will tell you directly where we can.
